“Stop Lynas! Solidarity Walk” was a walk jointly organized by THE PEOPLE’S GREEN COALITION, KUANTAN ENVIRONMENTAL WATCH GROUP and SAVE MALAYSIA on 20 of May 2011, started from KLCC to the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. The walk was concluded with the People’s memorandum handover to the Australian High Commissioner by Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh, toxicologist Dr T Jayabalan, Save Malaysia reps Vincent Jiam, Tan Bun Teet and Haji Ismail, as well as Balok Village rep Andansura bin Rabu.

Close to 200 residents held a demonstration at Parliament, Kuala Lumpur this morning to protest against a rare earth processing project by Australian mining company Lynas Corporation in Gebeng, Kuantan. The police allowed 10 representatives to enter Parliament to hand a memorandum to the Prime Minister and all 222 Members of Parliament. Kuantan MP YB Fuziah Salleh leaded them into the Parliament building.

A group of Pahang residents accompanied by Kuantan MP YB Fuzaih Salleh has urged Australia’s Lynas Corp to “pack up and leave” Malaysia and abandon plans to build a rare earth refinery in Gebeng, near Kuantan.
