(Kuantan, Pahang, 7th December 2011) MB Pahang Adnan Yaakob said since Lynas rare earth project has become a political issue instigated by the opposition, Kuantan constituent will face greater challenges in the coming general election. MCA will continue to take part in the coming general election for this constituency, because MCA has a higher chance than UMNO to win.
This morning, when Adnan attended the first “1Malaysia Shop” opening ceremony in Kuantan, Pahang, he indicated so, during the interview by reporters at a press conference.
Rare Earth Plant Issues Have Been Politicized
Adnan pointed out since the Lynas issues have been politicized, Barisan Nasional will have an unprecedented intense fighting with Pakatan Rakyat in Kuantan and Indera Mahkota constituencies in this coming general election.
“In this case, we can only try our best to compete with Pakatan Rakyat to see who is more skilful in getting the peoples’ hearts.”
UMNO Will Not Fight for Kuantan Parliamentary Seat
Adnan stressed that UMNO Pahang has never been fighting with MCA over the Kuantan parliamentary seat.
Although in the 2008 general election, PKR candidate Fuziah Salleh defeated former MCA vice-president Datuk Fu Ah Kiow with 1,826 majority votes. Adnan believes MCA will have a higher chance than UMNO in winning Kuantan parliamentary seat.
Asking about the earlier rumours that UMNO Kuantan Division has the intention to fight for BN Kuantan parliamentary seats, but Adnan denied on the spot.
“This is only political conjecture, UMNO has never thought of fighting with MCA.”
“Now, although PKR has won the Kuantan and Indera Mahkota parliamentary seats, but we will try our best to defeat them.”
