Stop LYNAS by voting BN government out!

Rare earth ore in Kuantan under heavy police escort

Malaysiakini

More than 100 containers containing rare earth ore have arrived in Kuantan port near midnight under unusually heavy police presence.

Stop Lynas Coalition chairperson Andansura Rabu, who was at the port, told Malaysiakini that a large number of police and Lynas employees were at the dock last night.

azlanAccording to him, some 102 containers arrived at Kuantan port at about 11pm, which he suspected contain raw material for the controversial Lynas rare earth plant in Gebeng.

Meanwhie Lynas issued a brief statement today confirming that the news.

“Lynas Corporation ispleased to announce that approximately 100 containers of rare earths concentrate have now arrived in Kuantan,” it announced on its official website today.

On Monday, Lynas announced that the processing of the raw materials will begin next month after winning a court battle against activists who are against the plant, which many fear produces radioactive wastes.

According to Andansura, the transportation of these containers to the plant about 7km away started between 1am to 2am. He said they were moved by container trucks under police escort and the process was still underway as at 8am morning.

No photographs allowed

Although the port documents did not specify the material stored inside the containers, Andansura said the heavy police presence had led him to believe that it was rare earth ore from Australia.

He also claimed that the police had closed down the main road from the port to the plant, and deployed three police cars to escort the container trucks. There were another two police vehicles parked at the port.

The police stopped Andansura and a number of other anti-Lynas activists from taking photographs and they were repeatedly barred from the area.

In an official statement later this morning, Lynas confirmed that “approximately 100 containers of rare earths concentrate have now arrived in Kuantan, and that a significant portion of those containers are now at the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (Lamp)”.

“Lynas expects that first feed to kiln and commencement of operations at the Lamp will occur over the coming days,” it says.

The containers came at a time when anti-Lynas coalition Himpunan Hijau is holding a 300km march from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur, while another group Save Malaysia, Stop Lynas (SMSL) is in Australia to lobby against the plant.

MP temu SPR, Pakatan syor panel khas semak data pemilih

Malaysians overseas will be allowed to vote

Free Malaysia Today
G Vinod
| November 19, 2012

Pakatan Rakyat MPs were also promised by the Election Commission that Rela officers would remain as normal voters.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) today promised to get the Parliament to gazette regulations to allow Malaysians overseas to vote in the next general election.

DAP MP Anthony Loke said this at a press conference held at the Parliament lobby today. Also present were PKR MPs Fuziah Salleh and Nurul Izzah Anwar.

This was revealed to the parliamentarians by the EC is a meeting held at the Parliament secretariat room. The meeting was chaired by EC chairman Abdul Aziz Yusof and his deputy Wan Ahmad Wan Omar.

The nearly three hours meeting was attended by about 50 MPs from both sides of the political divide.

Loke, who is Rasah MP, said he was glad by the assurance given by the EC. However, he also reminded the electoral body that they had only two weeks to gazette the required regulations.

“I told them that they only have two weeks. The next parliamentary session will be held only after the 13th general election,” he said.

Loke added that Abdul Aziz also promised that military and police officers would be called for advanced voting, instead of being postal voters, for the general election except for those serving overseas and at the borders.

“He also assured that Rela officers will not be postal voters and categorised as normal voters,” he said.

On related matter, Fuziah said that Pakatan leaders were concerned over some reports that Rela officers may be turned into postal voters and Abdul Aziz’s assurance was timely.

The Kuantan MP said that a parliamentary constituency would have between 8,000 and 10,000 Rela members, which could affect an area’s electoral results.

“I also pointed out that about 2,000 voters were shifted from their voting locality from Pekan to Kuantan, which is illegal.

“When I asked EC about this, Abdul Aziz said they were correcting the voters’ locality. But when I told them their homes were in Pekan, he just said he would look into it,” said Fuziah.

Nurul said that it was upsetting that MPs had to verify the voters’ list when it was supposed to be the EC’s job to do so.

“In India, the electoral commission does all this. As for my constituency alone, I have about 40% dubious names in the electoral list,” she said.

PERJUMPAAN DIANTARA AHLI-AHLI PARLIMEN DENGAN SPR

KENYATAAN MEDIA

PERJUMPAAN DIANTARA AHLI-AHLI PARLIMEN DENGAN SPR

19hb November 2012

Disediakan oleh:

Sekretariat Pakatan Rakyat

Khusus Berkenaan Kajian Data Daftar Pemilih yang di bekalkan SPR

SUMMARY – JENIS ADUAN

  1. Nama pemilih yang sudah di potong di masukkan semula kedalam DPI (Daftar Pemilih Induk). Kategori adalah seperti berikut;

Sistem pengundian awal mudah dimanipulasi SPR – Fuziah

(Aedi Asri)

KUALA LUMPUR 8 Nov: Pelaksanaan sistem pengundian awal yang menggantikan sistem undi polis, tidak kemas dan mudah dimanipulasi untuk memenangkan Umno BN, kata Ahli Parlimen Kuantan, Fuziah Salleh.

Beliau berkata, ia berikutan pengundian awal sepatutnya dibuat sehari sebelum hari mengundi, bukan tiga hari seperti yang ditetapkan Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR).

Mengikut laporan Bernama 14 Mac lalu, Pengerusi SPR, Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof memperkenal sistem undi awal menggantikan undi pos bermula Pilihan Raya umum (PRU) ke-13.

Lembah Pantai postal voters still on roll despite objection

Aidila Razak
2:13PM Nov 8, 2012

The 383 postal voters in Lembah Pantai previously objected to during the display of the quarterly supplementary roll are back on the electoral roll, said Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.

However, the PKR vice-president said that instead of being registered at the Bukit Jalil temporary holding facility, they are now registered as postal voters at the Travers police station.

“In early 2011, I had found that the Bukit Jalil temporary holding facility, 12km away from Lembah Pantai and located in the Bandar Tun Razak constituency in 2008, was included as a Lembah Pantai postal voting centre.

“After making several objections to the Election Commission, I am now shocked to find the latest data indicating that the 383 postal voters have been moved from the Bukit Jalil temporary holding facility to the Travers police station,” she said.

NONENurul Izzah (right) said that she has tried to meet with the Federal Territories Election Commission chief on issues pertaining to the electoral roll in Lembah Pantai, but the appointment has been postponed several times.

“So we have met with (Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department) Mohd Nazri (Abdul Aziz), who has instructed the Election Commission chairperson and his officers to come to meet with us in Parliament on Nov 19 to address these issues,” she said.

Nurul Izzah and other interested MPs will be submitting their complaints on the electoral roll for the EC to prepare their answers by tomorrow.

Other discrepancies found in Lembah Pantai are:

  • More than 30,000 voters on the roll do not have complete addresses,
  • Postal voters have risen from 154 in 2008 to 2,227 in third quarters of 2012.
  • 772 voters registered although they are under 21,
  • 31 voters were moved from Seputeh on the same day, and all of them were registered to seven units at the Kampung Limau low cost flats.

“When my staff went to check at Kampung Limau, they were barred,” she said.

Pahang EC in the dark

Also at the press conference was Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh, who is facing the same problems with the Kuantan roll.

“When I asked Pahang EC they say they too don’t know and are interested to find out what the headquarters have to say,” she said.

NONEFuziah (left) said that many enquiries have been made in writing to the EC, while PKR’s appointment with the EC, too, has been postponed several times.

“The point is, it’s not our job to audit the EC. We have other things to do as MPs, and we should not have to hire staff or recruit volunteers and spend late nights checking the roll,” she said.

She also questioned why advanced voting is to be conducted three days before polling day when the process only takes a day.

“We are not allowed to have our own seals on the ballot box (for advanced votes) so it will be very difficult to secure the integrity of the ballot boxes for three days,” she said.

She also spoke out against the extension of advanced voting for spouses.

“The person who needs advanced voting may be on duty but their spouses are not and the spouses should vote on polling day,” she said.

Fuziah also raised concern over the fact that normal rubber stamps are used to authenticate ballot papers instead of the previous ones with indentations.

“Anyone can make a rubber stamp,” she said.

“We are within six months of elections and still these problems are there.”

Kuantan MP: EC tinkering with electoral roll

Malaysiakini
Aidila Razak
2:21PM Nov 7, 2012

PKR claims that the Election Commission has been amending the electoral roll without first displaying the changes in the quarterly supplementary roll, which is open for public objection.

NONEKuantan MP Fuziah Salleh alleged that in Kuantan alone, 155 names were found to have suddenly appeared in the latest gazetted roll, while 433 names were removed.

“A large number disappeared without record while a large portion was moved to another parliamentary constituency without first being displayed (for objections),” she said.

“This is manipulation and could change the results. What if those 433 people are my voters?”

Fuziah won her seat in 2008 with a majority of 1,826 votes.

Speaking at the Parliament lobby, she said 155 names displayed to be struck off the Kuantan roll made it back into the gazetted roll even though no objection had been made to their removal.

This includes the name of 99-year-old Lee Tee, which was displayed for removal in 2011 but was found on the gazetted roll as at this morning, she said.

“We checked and her relatives informed us that she has passed away. Of the 155 in Kuantan, 130 are similar cases (to Lee’s).

“Nationwide, there are 40,786 names that had been displayed for removal, and have been re-inserted even though no objections were made against the names being removed.”

Full addresses missing

She added that the discrepancies in the roll were spotted after checks by party workers but this is difficult to do with the Election Commission now refusing to disclose full addresses of voters.

“The address listed could be number 10 of an apartment complex, but the complex may have blocks A to F, so we then have to go up and down all the blocks to find one voter,” she said.

She said that these problems faced showed that the Election Commission is not serious in cleaning up the roll and that any efforts taken are only “shut critics mouths or merely a media show”.
